West End Physio has re-opened to provide face-to-face consultations where deemed essential and clinically appropriate.
We continue to follow the national guidance provided by NHS Scotland and our regulating body, the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy with regards to implementing policies and processes in relation to COVID-19 to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.
Any patients requesting a face-to-face consultation will first receive a brief telephone consultation and/or screening via email from one of our physios to assess clinical need and screen for any additional risk factors.
Where deemed appropriate clients will be offered a face-to-face consultation. After the initial consultation it will be agreed between client and therapist whether future treatment sessions can be delivered remotely or whether there will be a need for ongoing face to face treatments.
West End Physio is applying 3 Principles for re-opening –
Hygiene, Confidence and Communication
Hygiene – All reasonable infection prevention and control measures are in place and compliant with Public Health guidelines.
Confidence – Clients, clinicians and the general public can have confidence in West End Physio’s strong commitment to ensure safety measures are in place and followed at all times.
Communication – West End Physio will be forthcoming with communication to clients and the general public, with all clients being triaged prior to booking an on-site visit. No online booking facility is available for face to face appointments at this time.
What we have been doing in preparation…
- We have been preparing thorough risk assessments for every aspect of our clinic environment and the patient journey to ensure we provide the cleanest and safest environment possible.
- We have procured adequate supplies of PPE (personal protective equipment) which not only comply with current guidelines, but also minimises any risk of transmission of COVID-19 during treatment sessions.
- We will continue to follow the guidelines set out by the government, our professional body and NHS Scotland. We will respond to any changes to ensure we comply with all the necessary social distancing and personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols.
Here is our 10 step plan for re-opening:
1/ We shall be significantly increasing the level and frequency of cleaning in our clinic. It will be undergoing regular deep cleans to ensure we maintain highest levels of hygiene. Industry recommended virucidal disinfectant cleaning products will be used to minimise the risk of contamination.
2/ Face to face appointments will only be offered to clients where effective treatment cannot reasonably be carried out remotely – clients will receive telephone screening consultation to discuss this.
3/ All clients and physio staff are advised not to attend our clinic if they are displaying possible signs of COVID-19 or if they should be self-isolating under current government guidelines. Clients and physio staff will be screened before their appointment to ensure they do not have any Covid-19 symptoms.
4/ All physio staff will be temperature checked on entering the clinic and advised not to enter if their temperature is greater than 37.8 .
5/ There will be no waiting room and we would kindly ask that patients should only use the toilet facilities if necessary to try and minimise surface contact viral spread. The facilities will be cleaned between clients.
6/ Alcohol gel will be provided on entry and exit of the clinic.
7/ Our physios will be wearing all the necessary PPE including surgical masks, gloves and aprons during your appointment. If there is any chance of ‘splash back’ from bodily fluids e.g. during exercise or manual therapy, your clinician will wear a visor or eye protection.
8/ We will be minimising the number of clients and staff in the clinic at one time. Whenever possible during the treatment session, we will be adhering to social distancing of 2m.
9/ A carer or guardian will be allow to be present during treatment in appropriate circumstances so long as they are first screened and are free from COVID signs and symptoms.
10/ We will be operating a significantly reduced service to minimise the number of clients and staff in the clinic at one time.

Appointments will finish promptly at the end of the 60/30 minute treatment period allowing a 15 minute period where your physio will disinfect surfaces including door handles, chairs, plinths and any clinical equipment used.
